Upper eyelid blepharoplasty treatment
As we get older, the skin around our eyes is the first to show signs of ageing. The skin losing its elasticity causes upper eyelid hooding. The excess skin may be associated with prolapse of orbital fat causing the eyelid to bulge. Excess skin and bulging fat can create a heavy looking eyelid, giving the area around the eyes a tired and aged appearance. Saggy upper eyelid skin can in some people impair vision by obstructing their visual field.
Blepharoplasty, also known as eye-hooding surgery or an eyelift, is an eyelid reshaping procedure which gives eyelids a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. In some patients, the appearance of the eyelids may be asymmetric and blepharoplasty may be performed to improve symmetry. Surgery can also improve vision if the excess upper eyelid skin was reducing the visual field due to the skin hanging over the edge of the eyelid.
Blepharoplasty can be performed by various specialists. The advantage of oculoplastic surgeons like Miss Kovacova is that she not only has the technical competence to perform periocular surgery, but is also extensively trained to examine your eyes before and after the operation and manage any ophthalmic complications or consequences of the surgery, such as dry eyes. About upper eyelid blepharoplasty
How is blepharoplasty performed?
Upper lid blepharoplasty involves removal of eyelid excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat. An incision will be hidden in the natural skin crease of the upper eyelid.
Additional ptosis surgery
In patients who also have droopy eyelid (ptosis) or droopy eyebrow (brow ptosis), additional ptosis surgery can be recommended in order to achieve a perfect outcome.
Treatment and recovery
Blepharoplasty is performed under a local or twilight anaesthetic and it is a day case procedure. Recovery time is about 2-weeks, during this period you will have upper eyelid skin crease sutures, some swelling and light bruising of your periocular area. Sutures are removed 10-14 days after the surgery.
